The soap community is still processing the loss of Drake Hogestyn. Since the news broke, many have found themselves in a reflective mood and shedding tears—a testament to the impact he had on our lives. Hogestyn’s colleagues have shared heartfelt tributes in his honor, while Access Hollywood brought in Christopher Sean and Eric Martsolf for a segment where they reflected on their final moments with Hogestyn and the remarkable work they accomplished together.

Hogestyn’s final scenes as John Black on Days of our Lives aired on September 9, and Eric Martsolf had the privilege of being part of that significant moment. However, in the Access Hollywood clip, Martsolf noted that he was unaware that the final moments between Brady and John would mark their last. He shared, “There was a particular sequence of scenes where in which I actually looked him in the eye and said, ‘How you doing, man?’ And he did that little grunt that he does and said, ‘Kid, I’m on a journey; I got to do my thing.’ I could tell that he was going to fight hard. He did not want to leave the program. He would compose himself off camera and get right in there.’”

Christopher Sean was in tears when he talked about the last time he saw Drake in his dressing room. When he asked Drake how he was doing, he responded, “Oh, not feeling too good so I’m not going to talk much.” Christopher added that it was the the first time ever Drake was not sharing a story.
