It’s Official: Days of Our Lives Is About to Hit the Mother Lode With Xander

We had a sneaking suspicion back in May that this moment was coming on Days of Our Lives. The second Sarah brought up Xander’s mom on Mother’s Day, it seemed like the show was finally introducing us to the idea of meeting the mysterious Mrs. Cook. We’ve been waiting for years to find out something, anything about her other than that Xander got her last name, instead of the Kiriakis name.

We finally got to “hear” from her, in a way, when Theresa and Konstantin tracked down the letter she wrote to Victor declaring Xander his son, rather than Titus’. But we still didn’t get much information on her — and that includes even a name — seeing as how they promptly changed the letter. Instead of Xander being Victor’s son, they made Alex his kid when they switched out the true author’s name for Anjelica Deveraux’s.

Now, though, Sarah has sold a reluctant Xander that they should invite Mommie Dearest to their wedding — for Victoria’s sake. And not only that, we learned why Xander hates her — she’s an “unrepentant” alcoholic. As he told Sarah, unlike Maggie, his mom never wanted to get better.

On top of that, we know that she was married to Titus Kiriakis but had an affair with his brother Victor. And knowing all that, we, as viewers might be able to see what could have driven her to drink. For Xander, though, there doesn’t seem to be much redeeming about her. At least so far.

But in the end, he gave in to Sarah, even handing over the last phone number he had from his mom to her, while warning that getting in touch with Mrs. Cook wouldn’t be easy. In fact, we have a feeling he’s counting on it being just about impossible and Sarah either giving up or failing. But where’s the soapy fun in that?

Now that Sarah’s made her first attempt at contact, Days of Our Lives pretty much guaranteed that Xander’s mom will be showing up soon. The question, though, is when? The show announced back in April that it had hired English actress Serena Scott Thomas for a mystery role. At first, we were thinking that she would end up playing Konstantin’s wife. But now that that story seems to be wrapping up, it’s doubtful the returning writers are going to care much about Kon’s ex.

So we (and, it seems, quite a few fans) are thinking the woman who once played Princess Diana might be taking on a role a bit closer to home. One way or another, we’ll likely learn who she’s playing soon enough, as the show tends to keep casting news like that close to their chest until it’s almost time to air.
